Geoff Gollop was born and raised in Bristol. He has dedicated much of his life improving the city. His father Philip was councillor for Henbury and gave Geoff a thirst for public service, leading him to support many local charities and even become a councillor himself. Geoff was awarded the OBE in 1995 and became Lord Mayor last year.
Geoff's professional focus has always been small business. As a chartered accountant, he has extensive knowledge of running successful companies of all sizes, including the burden of red tape that strangles many small firms.
Active in the Bristol Chamber of Commerce and Institute of Directors, Geoff is Vice President of the West of England Society for Chartered Accountants.
Locally, he has chaired the Neighbourhood Partnership in Henleaze, Westbury and Stoke Bishop, served as a govenor of Henbury School and Henleaze Junior School and is a former warden of St Mary's Church in Henbury.
Geoff is also a member of and supports:
- Bristol Zoo Gardens
- SS Great Britain
- Avon Wildlife Trust
- Friends of Arnos Vale Cemetary
- Friends of Bristol Botanic Garden
- Westbury-on-Trym Society
- National Trust
- English Heritage
As Conservative candidate for mayor, Geoff is laying out sensible plans to improve transport, education and the economy in Bristol. He has a record of action and is considered the best choice for Bristol Mayor by many leading businesspeople and community leaders.
